2007 Illinois Associated Press Editors Association
Photographic Excellence Contest Guideline: One CD per newspaper will be accepted. The name of the publication must be printed clearly on the face of the CD. Images from each individual category should be put in separate folders on the CD. The folders should be named for the corresponding category and code. For example, the Spot News folder would be named 1 SN, General News is 2 GN, etc. All entries from all photographers should be in the categorized folders. A member entering in all nine categories should have nine separate folders on its CD.
The ../images/ must be saved as JPEGs with the largest dimension,(vertical or horizontal) being a maximum of 10 inches at 200 DPI. Each image should be scanned as an RGB or Grayscale file. Do not use CMYK. Save each JPEG at a quality of high (8-10 depending on the version of Photoshop.) Each image file must have a caption embedded utilizing the File Info utility in Photoshop. The first template should carry a title for the photo, all in upper case, followed by a caption, typed in the caption box (25 words maximum). The category code should be placed in the Special Instructions box. For Photo stories: The category code should be followed by a sequential numbering of the story ../images/ in the Special Instructions box. Example: PS/ 1 of 12 photos, PS/ 2 of 12 photos, etc. There is a limit of 12 ../images/ per picture story. All ../images/ in a photo story count as one entry. Each picture story entry MUST have an introductory paragraph on an intro slide/photo, which will not count as one of the 12 photos. ![]() Judges will be allowed to recategorize entries. THE PHOTOGRAPHER'S NAME OR THEIR PUBLICATION SHOULD NOT APPEAR ANYWHERE ON THE FIRST PAGE OF THE INFO FILE. The photographer’s name should be placed in the Byline (Credits section) or Author (General section) box of File Info. The photographer's publication name should appear in the Source box. ![]() Entries must be named and saved to their appropriate folder with the following sequence: category code, the publication's SID code, and entry number 1,2,3,4 or 5. As an example, the first General News photo entered by the Chicago Sun-Times would be named: GNILCHS1 and it would be saved to the GN folder.
