News and Photo Contest Eligibility

News Contest Rules :

Eligibility:

The IAPEA news and photo excellence contests are open to any AP member in good standing listed in the Editor & Publisher yearbook as an Illinois newspaper, or considered by the Audit Bureau of Circulation to be an Illinois newspaper. The contest is open to entries from regular employees of AP member newspapers published between May 1, 2008 and April 30, 2009. Entries must be submitted by the publisher, editor, executive editor or managing editor. Entries must be postmarked no later than May 31, 2009.

The following limitations are strictly enforced:

AP member newspapers may enter a maximum of three times per category, all entries in that category may be subject to disqualification without reimbursement of entry fees. In addition, anyone who was an employee of an Illinois AP member newspaper sometime between May 1, 2008, and April 30, 2009, may enter this year's contest on their own, paying $2.50 per entry. Individual entrants are limited to one entry per category. Individuals submitting entries on their own must include the material with their paper's overall entry; in the event the paper is not entering the contest, individuals can send their entries directly to the AP at the address herein.

An individual story or a series may be entered in only one category. Violation may subject the entry to disqualification in all submitted categories without reimbursement of entry fees.

New! All entries must include any published corrections associated with the entry.

Format:

Each entry must be submitted in an 8-1/2 by 11-inch labeled file folder. Articles must be submitted as full-page tearsheets, quarter-folded to fit in the file folder, or mounted on 8-1/2-by-11-inch paper.

TWO (2) entry forms must be submitted for each entry: one attached to each folder and a duplicate in a separate folder containing ALL of the newspaper's entry forms. The forms must be completely filled out and signed by the person submitting each newspaper's entry. For 2008-09 only, individual employees entering on their own should make sure to submit two forms as described herein and include payment either on their own or as part of the paper's overall entry fee.

For written acknowledgment that entries have been received, a stamped, self-addressed postcard must be included with the entries.

Fees:

The newspaper entry fee is waived for this year (usually $25 for each newspaper in Division C; $50 for each newspaper in Division B; and, $75 for each newspaper in Division A), plus $2.50 per entry for 2008-09 only. Checks should be made out to Illinois Associated Press Editors' Association (IAPEA). Use the attached fee worksheet and enclose it with your check. We cannot accept credit cards.
