Underground Tanks-Cleanup

The Illinois General Assembly is considering legislation to allow private financing for cleaning up gas station sites contaminated with fuel from leaking underground storage tanks.

The state collects a tax on fuel delivery to reimburse site owners who do cleanups, but the owners are waiting more than a year for payment. The fund has a backlog of 1,544 bills totaling more than $55 million.

Here are the sites that have been cleaned up and are owed money, the city they're in and the amount owed, and the date the bill was submitted.
