~Illinois Traffic Stops~

The Associated Press has spent the past few weeks pouring through data to develop an indepth analysis of nearly 2.5 million traffic stops made on Illinois roads last year. The result is a detailed look at who's being pulled over, where, when, why and the result of the stops, including the issues raised by the numbers.
But there's so much more that can be done with the data at the local level, so we're handing that over to you. Included below are dozens of tables that provide both statewide figures about the stops and agency detail, so you can look more closely at how police agencies statewide and your local police departments fared in a number of categories.

The tables are sorted into different categories and include short explainers that should tell you what the numbers are showing you. For example, if you want to know how often your police department pulls over black male drivers, you'd look at the "agency stops by driver race and sex" table, or you'd use the "agency stops by roadway and search" table if you want to know how often your local police department conducts searches on city streets compared to highways.
A package of four AP stories and several accompanying glances will move for use Oct. 1-2. You can access the Website data now to begin working on local stories for use with the AP package, but we ask that you not move any stories using this AP-provided data until Oct. 1.
